Final Preview: Our Lady of Hope

My great-grandfather, Harry Haydt, was a longtime head usher at what was then Holy Child. Few things were more important to him than that parish, I'm told, and he remained a devoted fixture there until his death in the early 1970s. I never met the man, but in many ways his spirit lives on in the Project. It cannot be a mere coincidence that the Project was born out of a trip to that very same church, and it can be nothing short of divine inspiration that led me to undertake this remarkable journey. Everything the Philadelphia Church Project is, or ever will be, is because of him.

This photo set, then, has been intensely personal in a way that no other Project endeavor has. As it comes to completion, I can only hope it’s a fitting testament. Not just to his memory, but to what I set out to accomplish seven-and-a-half years ago.
